Thursday, May 13, 2027 Rome - Spoleto - Umbria

Stroll the historic streets of the Umbrian hill town of Spoleto with a local expert and see centuries of architectural history, from the ruins of the Rocca Albornoz castle to the gilded elegance of the Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta. Pause at a family-owned frantoio (olive presser), where olives are pressed each November. After learning about the many varieties of trees and oil-making methods, join a tasting of the EVOO produced at the mill. Travel to Assisi, birthplace of St. Francis. Set out on a walking tour of the old city with a local guide, learning about its history as you stroll the medieval streets. Saturday, May 15, 2027 Umbria

In the shadow of the Apennines, experience Umbria’s epicurean side. Join a local truffle hunter in search of the elusive fungi in the company of his trained, truffle-sniffing dogs. Sample the goods yourself during a rustic, home-cooked lunch before returning to your hotel in the late afternoon. Hotel: Hotel Dei Duchi, Spoleto  (Breakfast, Lunch)

Leave Umbria for the villages of Tuscany, nestled among the Val d’Orcia region (UNESCO). Taste the flavors of the region at a dairy farm producing prized sheep-milk pecorino cheese. Snack on some creations and take in the views of the sparse farmhouses and open fields on your way to Pienza (UNESCO), a Renaissance village where flowers and plants adorn the cobblestoned streets. Monday, May 17, 2027 Pienza, Southern Tuscany

Embark on a journey of the Orcia Valley. Pause in the unique hamlet of Bagno Vignoni, whose central piazza is filled with thermal water once used to cure pilgrims who stopped here on their way to Rome. Then explore hilltop Montalcino, namesake to one of Italy’s great red wines, the Brunello. Tour a winery’s estate and cellar before indulging in a tasting of these noble red wines. Tuesday, May 18, 2027 Pienza - Siena - Chianti Region, Northern Tuscany

Take a guided walking tour through Siena, as you learn about the world-renowned Palio Horse Race. Enjoy free time to explore more of this hilly town, perhaps visiting its cathedral or the town hall’s frescoes. An afternoon drive through the Chianti countryside takes you to a Tuscan villa where your hotel is located. Hotel: Villa San Lucchese, Tuscany (Breakfast)

Wednesday, May 19, 2027 Florence

Explore Florence during an extensive walking tour in the company of a local expert.* View the Ponte Vecchio, the only Florentine bridge to survive WWII. Take in the Signoria Square and its imposing Palazzo Vecchio and admire the Piazza del Duomo, richly adorned by polychrome marble and gilded bronze doors. Take some time on your own to explore the city’s seemingly endless treasures, before returning to your Tuscan villa in the evening. Hotel: Villa San Lucchese, Tuscany  (Breakfast)

*Expect about 3 hours of free time in Florence. If you wish to visit the Accademia or Uffizi, reserve tickets online in advance, as same‑day tickets often sell out. Your walking tour ends around 1:00 p.m., and you’ll meet again for departure to Montecatini at 4:00 p.m. Allow about 30 minutes each way to walk between the tour’s endpoint, the museums, and the meeting point.

Thursday, May 20, 2027 Chianti Region, Northern Tuscany

Spend your morning in San Gimignano, whose 13th-century medieval towers stand tall over the surrounding vineyards. Taste authentic Italian gelato from an award-winning ice cream parlor while you wander the cobbled streets. Return to your hotel mid-afternoon. All pricing and included features are based on a minimum of 20 full-fare passengers. Desired pick-up location is not guaranteed until passenger minimums are met. Single occupancy accommodations are extremely limited and not guaranteed until space is confirmed.

$698 per person deposit is due at the time of booking to confirm your reservation. Final payment is due to AAA by  January 27, 2027.

Activity Level 3: Moderate

Good mobility is required for this trip. Climbing stairs and standing for 2-3 hours at a time, as well as walking on uneven terrain may be necessary. Portions of the itinerary may include higher altitudes. The itinerary may involve longer days up to 12-14 hours in length. This activity level is not recommended for travelers with significant mobility concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a passport? What about travel visas?

Yes, an original, signed passport valid for 6 months beyond stay, and with at least one blank visa page for visa stamp(s) is required. At the time of the printing of this brochure all guests are required to obtain an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) Travel authorization for travel to Europe’s Schengen Zone (not included in the price of the trip). UK ETA (UK Electronic Travel Authorization) is recommended in case of a UK layover.  Please see your AAA Travel Advisor for more information.

How Many Bags am I Allowed to Bring?

One suitcase per person will be allowed by the tour company. You may also bring a small carry-on and personal item.

Do I Need Travel Insurance?

For your protection AAA highly recommends travel insurance. Pre-existing medical conditions may be waived with proper coverage only if travel insurance is purchased within 14 days of initial deposit. Other conditions may apply; ask your Travel Advisor. AAA recommends Allianz Insurance.

What will the weather be like?

Temperatures for Italy during this time average in the 70s with cooler evenings in the 50s. Pack for a variety of temperatures. Casual clothes that can be layered work best. Comfortable, yet sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Be sure to bring plenty of sun protection.
