Itinerary

Monday, August 31: Travel to Long Island, Visit Old Westbury Gardens

7:00AM: Motorcoach will depart from Lancaster, AC Moore store located in Lancaster Shopping Center on the Oregon Pike/ Route 272 side of the store.

8:00AM: Depart from Harrisburg, AAA Central Penn, 2301 Paxton Church Rd; travel to Long Island, NY with appropriate rest and meal stops en route.

Welcome to Long Island! Magnificent discoveries await you as you experience the lifestyle of some of Long Island’s famous residents: Jerry Seinfeld, Billy Joel, Calvin Klein, Martha Stewart and more! Long Island’s charming 125 mile stretch boasts quaint villages, cultural treasures, boutique shopping, pristine beaches and exceptional vineyards. We begin with a delightful afternoon visit to Old Westbury Gardens, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the former home of the Phipps Family. Nestled amid the 200 acres of beautiful formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds and lakes stands their Charles II-style mansion. A perfect start to our Long Island escape! Later, we’ll arrive at the hotel to check in for a three night stay, and freshen up before dinner.

Tuesday, September 1: “North Fork” Vineyard Tours and Wine Tasting

After breakfast meet our guide for a day of sightseeing and exploring Long Island’s “North Fork”. Tour through charming villages and seaside communities as well as visit the Southhold Historical Society. This afternoon you’ll have free time to enjoy this charming village and have lunch on your own. Following lunch we’ll explore the North Fork’s wine region, recently named one of the Top Ten Wine Regions in the World. We will stop at two of Long Islands wonderful vineyards for tours and wine tastings. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Wednesday, September 2: “South Fork” The Hamptons, Sag Harbor, Whaling Musuem and Montauk Point
Lighthouse

After breakfast, we’ll meet our local guide for a day of sightseeing and touring “South Fork”. Most notably known as ‘The Hamptons’, we will explore what is considered the summer playground of the rich and famous, where today’s most wellknown celebrities own summer homes. We’ll also enjoy a stop at one of America’s “top 10 beaches” and visit Sag Harbor, once a bustling port town where whalers of all nationalities converge. Enjoy some free time to stroll up Main Street and visit its old-time storefronts, antique shops, and lunch on your own. We’ll visit the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum and learn about local history as you walk through exhibits housed in a 19th century mansion. Our journey continues at Montauk Point State Park for a visit to the Montauk Point Lighthouse, commissioned by George Washington in 1792. With its breathtaking views, the Montauk Point Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in New York State and majestically stands at Long Island’s easternmost point. Tonight, we’ll be treated to a private dinner at the Long Island Aquarium followed by VIP ‘after hours’ access to the Aquarium! On 3.2 acres along the scenic Peconic River, the aquarium is home to one of the Western Hemisphere’s largest all-living coral reef displays. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Thursday, September 3: “Gold Coast” Mansions Tour and Depart for Central Pennsylvania

Enjoy breakfast this morning, before departing our hotel and touring along Long Island’s Gold Coast, a virtual Who’s Who of High Society. From the turn of the century through the 1930s, this North Shore was THE place to be for some of the most notable Americans, including the Astor’s to the Vanderbilt’s. Also, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famous historical novel, The Great Gatsby was inspired by one or more of Long Island’s Gold Coast Mansions! We’ll have a tour of the grandest of
them all the Oheka Castle!

This afternoon depart for Central Pennsylvania with appropriate rest and meal stops enroute. (Breakfast,)

A state issued photo I.D. is required ( such as a valid driver’s license.) Must be 21 years old for wine tasting.

PAYMENT

$300 per person deposit due at the time of booking to confirm your reservation. Final payment is due to AAA by July 10, 2020.
Solo Travelers Rewards Club maximum voucher redemption: $50

CANCELLATION/PENALTIES

A $25 per person cancellation fee will be charged by Discoveries in addition to any other supplier’s fees.
From July 10, 2020 to day of departure no refunds.

INSURANCE

For your protection AAA recommends travel insurance. Pre-existing medical conditions may be waived with proper coverage if travel insurance is purchased within 14 days of initial deposit only. Other conditions may apply; ask your travel agent.

CLOTHING/CLIMATE

Temperatures for Long Island in September average in the 80s. Casual clothes and comfortable walking shoes are recommended; be prepared for potential inclement weather.
