Saturday, August 21 – Arrive in San Francisco
Transfer by motorcoach to a local airport for your flight to San Francisco. Welcome to San Francisco, the City by the Bay! Upon arrival, you will transfer to your hotel where you will meet your Travel Director. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Reception as you toast to the start of your vacation. Sunday, August 22 – San Francisco
Tap into San Francisco’s iconic locations as well as its nooks and crannies that only locals know. Stroll down Alamo Square, home to the famous “Painted Ladies”, the famous “postcard row” of brightly painted Victorian houses. Then zigzag down charming flower-lined Lombard Street, known as the crookedest street in the world. This afternoon and evening you are free to enjoy the city on your own. You could enjoy a San Francisco Bay cruise or a Chinatown walking tour. (Breakfast)
Monday, August 23 – San Francisco to Napa/Sonoma
Leave your heart in San Francisco as you set out in search of Bacchus in California’s world-renowned wine country. Enjoy a lunch as you journey through the countryside sampling wine aboard the vintage rail cars of the Napa Valley Wine Train. Proudly continuing the railroad traditions of yore, the train offers a truly unique and memorable experience. The evening is yours to spend any way you prefer. Perhaps dine at one of the delicious restaurants on historic Sonoma Plaza. Hotel: Hampton Inn Napa or similar. (Breakfast and Lunch)
Tuesday, August 24 – Napa Valley Excursion
Enjoy a visit to an olive press in Sonoma where you will take a tour to learn about the harvesting process and the making of olive oil with a Local Specialist. Stroll historic Sonoma Plaza, planked by the Presidio and Mission San Francisco de Solano, the last California mission built. Enjoy lunch on your own and browse the unique gift shops that line the square. Later, visit a family-owned winery for an exclusive tour and wine tasting. Enjoy an evening at leisure to spend as you please. (Breakfast)
Wednesday, August 25 – Napa to Lake Tahoe
Travel through the fertile Sacramento River Valley to the alpine splendor of Lake Tahoe. Its crystal blue waters are surrounded by evergreen pines and rocky out crops where you are at your leisure to enjoy the natural beauty. Hotel: Hotel Beckett Lake Tahoe or similar, Lake Tahoe (Breakfast)
Thursday, August 26 – Lake Tahoe
After breakfast, step back in time as you ride along the Pony Express Trail to America’s largest historic landmark, Virginia City, where Mark Twain once roamed the streets and everybody wanted a piece of the “Richest Place on Earth”. Learning about the West Coast’s infamous Silver Rush is a true Cultural insight. Take some time to visit one of the mansions, museums, gold and silver stores, and see a real mine. This evening, enjoy an elegant sunset farewell dinner cruise on the lake, complete with wine, live music, and magnificent views. (Meals: Breakfast and Farewell Dinner)
Friday, August 27 – Lake Tahoe to San Francisco
Return to San Francisco as a group for a night to relax and enjoy the city. Hotel: Hotel Union Square or similar. (Breakfast)
Saturday, August 28 – Depart San Francisco
Your trip comes to an end today as you take with you the wonderful memories of Northern California. Transfer to San Francisco Airport for your flight and transportation back to Central PA.

This tour includes moderate physical activity. The itinerary blends some longer days with shorter days and more leisure time. Walking tours, as well as walking slightly longer distances, up stairs, or on uneven walking surfaces, should be expected.

For your protection AAA recommends travel insurance. Pre-existing medical conditions may be waived with proper coverage if travel insurance is purchased within 14 days of initial deposit only. Other conditions may apply; ask your travel agent. AAA recommends Allianz.
Air arrangements are handled by the tour operator. Seat assignments cannot be confirmed until the tour operator releases names to the airlines 30 days prior to departure. Specific seat requests cannot be guaranteed. Some flight schedules may contain code share agreements.
Temperatures in Northern California in August range from the high 60s to the low 80s. Pack for a variety of temperatures. Casual clothes that can be layered and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
One suitcase per person will be allowed. You may also bring a carry-on bag small enough to fit under your seat. Baggage fees are not included in the price of the trip. Baggage fees and other charges may be directly assessed by airlines or airport.
For personal comfort, group participants who need assistance are required to have a traveling companion who is capable of and totally responsible for providing the needed assistance.
