Tuesday, April 13, 2027: Tokyo

Visit the Meiji Shrine outside Tokyo, and pass through the grounds of the Imperial Palace. Then, visit the historic neighborhoods of Ginza, and some of the most renowned and luxurious shopping venues in Japan. Then, take in a welcome dinner with your fellow travelers. Wednesday, April 14, 2027: Tokyo

Explore Asakusa, Tokyo’s oldest Geisha district, and the famous Buddhist temple of Senso-ji. Then, take in the Nakamise Shopping Arcade, the oldest shopping street in Japan, before heading to the Tokyo National Museum to learn about the culture and history of the city. Thursday, April 15, 2027: Tokyo - Hakone

Travel to the lakeside resort of Hakone, known worldwide for its hot spring. Along the way, climb aboard the Hakone Ropeway to descend the Owakudani crater, located in an active volcanic zone, and get an aerial view of Mount Fuji from a cable car*. Friday, April 16, 2027: Hakone - Matsumoto - Takayama

Visit the famous Matsumoto Castle, also known as the “Crow Castle,” before visiting the Edo-period town of Takayama, nestled in the Japanese Alps. Known for its locally brewed sake, visit one of Japan’s 200-year old breweries, before enjoying a traditional rice wine with a Hida beef dinner. Saturday, April 17, 2027: Takayama

Take a guided walking tour of Takayama’s historic district, and visit a 600-year old open air market with locally grown and produced products. Then, It’s Your Choice. Choose between a visit to the 19th Century government building of Takayama Jinya, or the Matsuri Yatai Kaikan, where you can view traditional hand carved floats used in local festivals. Sunday, April 18, 2027: Takayama - Shirakawa-go - Kunazawa

Visit the town of Shirakawa-go, nestled in the mountains and famed for its traditional gassho-zukuri style thatched roof houses. Then, journey to Kanazawa, the origin of gold-leaf making in the 16th century. Visit the Omicho fish market, and the Kenroku-En Garden of Six Qualities. Monday, April 19, 2027 - Kanazawa

Tuesday, April 20, 2027: Kanazawa - Kyoto

On arrival in the city of Kyoto, visit the Women’s Association of Kyoto, located in a traditional Kyoto town house. Wednesday, April 21, 2027: Kyoto

Visit Fushimi Inari Taisha for a tour of the revered shrine of Inari. Pass the rows of orange torii that weave through the forest on your way to the inner shrine. Then, visit the Nijo Castle, home of the first Shogun, and witness the intricate carvings and the Ninomaru garden. Thursday, April 22, 2027: Kyoto - Hiroshima - Kyoto

Board the famous Shinkansen bullet train to the city of Hiroshima. There, board a ferry to Miyajima Island, or “Shrine Island,” and visit the Peace Memorial Park where you can pause at the ruined Atomic Dome. After reflection at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, return to Kyoto by bullet train once again. Hotel: Nikko Princess Hotel Kyoto, Kyoto (Breakfast)

Friday, April 23, 2027: Kyoto

Spend time with a monk at Koshoji Temple**, where you will have the opportunity to chant and meditate with them. Afterwards, take part in the ancient art of the tea ceremony, and learn of this tradition’s rich history. In the afternoon, take some time to explore before reconvening for dinner at a special maiko show. Hotel: Nikko Princess Hotel Kyoto, Kyoto (Breakfast, Dinner)

 

**The Koshoji temple requires travelers to remove their shoes. During the meditation, travelers will sit on the floor. Those who cannot sit on the floor will be provided with a chair.

Single Rate Per Person – $11,519

Triple Rate Per Person – $9,899

All non-members must add $60 to the above rates. Rates are subject to availability at time of booking and include taxes, fees, and fuel surcharges which are subject to change. All pricing and included features are based on a minimum of 20 full-fare passengers. Single and triple occupancy accommodations are extremely limited and are not guaranteed until space is confirmed. Book by September 11, 2026 to secure your space. Reservations made after this date are subject to availability and rates are subject to potential increases. Desired pickup location is not guaranteed until passenger minimums are met.

Payment Schedule:

A deposit of $698 per person will confirm your reservation. Final payment is due to AAA by December 21, 2026.

Cancellation/Penalties:

From September 12, 2026 to January 11, 2027 – $698 per person, plus any additional suppliers fees

From January 12, 2027 to March 26, 2027 – 40% per person, plus any additional suppliers fees

From March 27, 2027 to April 10, 2027  – 75% per person, plus any additional suppliers fees

After April 10, 2027 – NON-REFUNDABLE

Holidays:

Golden Week is a cluster of national holidays in Japan, beginning April 29th. During Golden Week, popular tourist destinations can have increased crowding and many businesses operate on altered schedules. It is possible there will be longer than usual waits at some destinations on this itinerary, and museum visits may be affected by the observance of local holidays.

Dietary Needs:

This tour provides authentic dining experiences. Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten-Free diets are uncommon in Japan, and not widely catered to. If you have any dietary restrictions, please notify us at time of booking so we can accommodate you as best as possible.

Tour Activity Level:

Moderate: Good mobility is required for this trip. Climbing stairs and standing for 2-3 hours at a time, as well as walking on uneven terrain, may be necessary. Portions of the itinerary may include higher altitudes. The itinerary may involve longer days up to 12-14 hours in length. This activity level is not recommended for travelers with significant mobility concerns.

Do I need a passport?

Yes, an original, signed passport valid for 6 months beyond stay, and with at least one blank visa page for visa stamp(s). Additionally, Japan places restrictions on certain medications that may be commonly used as prescriptions and over-the-counter remedies in the United States. Please speak with your advisor about any additional entry requirements that may result from this.

What will the weather be like?

Temperatures for Japan in April can vary from the low 50s to the mid 70s, with cooler mornings and evenings. Casual clothes and comfortable walking shoes are recommended, along with a comfortable outer layer for cool evenings. Additionally, the Koshoji Temple in Kyoto will require visitors to remove their shoes upon entry, plan footwear appropriately.

Do I need travel insurance?

For your protection AAA highly recommends travel insurance. Pre-existing medical conditions may be waived with proper coverage only if travel insurance is purchased within 14 days of initial deposit. Other conditions may apply; ask your Travel Advisor. AAA recommends Allianz Insurance
