In Pennsylvania, there is a program called Path to Pennie. This program allows uninsured individuals to enroll in individual or family health insurance now, before open enrollment, and without having a qualifying event. Path to Pennie begins during tax season.
How does it work?
While completing your state tax return, you will fill out a form called the REV-1882 “Health Insurance Coverage information request”. This form asks basic questions about your household’s insurance needs and whether you’re interested in learning more about Pennie. After submitting this form, the PA Department of Revenue forwards your information to Pennie, which then creates an account for you. You will receive a letter containing an access code and an estimate of financial savings/tax credits (if you qualify).
You will have a 60-day window to apply, shop, and enroll in health coverage. Health insurance eases financial burden by covering your medical expenses, ensuring you have access to necessary care, and providing free preventive services.
If you already filed your taxes, that’s okay! You can still amend your taxes now and take advantage of the Path to Pennie and enroll in the Pennsylvania health marketplace.
