Find The Best Tropical Cruise for You + Save Big with AAA Travel

Whether you long for luxury or you’re seeking adventure, there’s a cruise that fits every type of traveler. Mexico and the Caribbean rank among the most popular cruising destinations in the world, with over 200 ships setting sail each year to these tropical destinations. The Caribbean alone has a whopping 84 cruise ports and thousands of individual Caribbean sailing. With so many cruise lines and destinations available, it can be difficult to choose the best cruise for you. Here are some of the best cruises to inspire every type of traveler.

Expedition Cruise

Expedition cruises are the perfect pick for travelers looking for adventure. These ships tend to be smaller which allows them to access smaller inlets in more far-flung locations. A typical itinerary may include scuba diving, hiking, kayaking, and an educational competent like visiting a historic site or looking for exotic plants and animals. One of our favorite expedition cruises the Galápagos’ Islands Expedition Cruise with Hurtigruten Expeditions. During this expert-led expedition, you’ll learn about the incredible local wildlife, meet endangered giant tortoises at a captive breeding program, and travel through the Galápagos Archipelago’s rare wilderness where you’ll get up close encounters with unique species such as the flightless cormorant, penguins  and marine iguana. The cost to book an expedition cruise per person starts at around $1,000* per day.

Family-Friendly

Many cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise, and Princess Cruises have dedicated ships designed with families in mind. They typically come with family cabins, kid’s clubs, water parks, and plenty of fun activities for kids and teens of all ages. One of the best picks for families with children 12 and under is Disney Magic, departing from New Orleans to the Western Caribbean. When booking a Disney cruise, expect Broadway-quality live performances, character experiences, a wide variety of dining options, and themed adult-only lounges. An interior room aboard Disney Magic starts at around $220* per night.

Mega Cruise

As the name implies, mega-cruises are big. These floating cities are among the most popular types of cruise ships. Expect every amenity to be included from go-kart tracks to rock climbing walls, theatres, a long list of excursions to explore, and plenty of nightlife. One of the most popular cruises is Carnival, which promises a fun time while at sea. Many mega cruises, including Carnival, are also very affordable with prices for interior cabins starting as low as $35* per night.

Boutique Cruise

Smaller than your average cruise ship, a boutique line carries around 700 passengers on average. These excursions typically have longer overnight stays in smaller ports that mega-cruise lines wouldn’t be able to reach. Fewer passengers also means you’ll typically have a more personalized shore excursion, and the flexibility to book last-minute luxuries like onboard spa appointments. The Azamara Quest, for example, sets sail from Chile to Argentina and offers all the amenities of mega-ship from modern accommodations, personalized dining options, and relaxing beaches. An interior room will cost about $198* per night per person.

Luxury Liners

Luxury Lines are perfect for people who prefer low crowds and an adult atmosphere. While most luxury lines allow children, there’s typically far less organized activities or kids’ clubs available. Like expedition ships, luxury lines typically carry between 300 and 1000 passengers, meaning less lines and low crowds.  Expect nothing short of exceptional service throughout your journey. Staff aboard luxury lines will go out of their way to make your stay comfortable – perhaps by having your favorite cabernet waiting for you at dinner or making sure your offboard experience is extra special. You should also expect high-quality fine dining with customized menus crafted just for you.  Be sure to check the dress code before you board, evening attire can range from casual-elegant to black tie. A suite aboard Regent will start at $700* per night for a seven day excursion departing from Miami.
