Healthcare is a necessity for everyone, yet many Pennsylvanians continue to go without health insurance. Fortunately, Pennsylvania offers a program called Path to Pennie, which helps connect uninsured individuals with affordable health coverage, even outside of the annual open enrollment period and without a traditional qualifying life event.

What is Path to Pennie?

The program begins during tax season and provides a unique opportunity for eligible individuals to enroll in coverage through Pennie.

How does it work?

When filing your Pennsylvania state income tax return, you will have the opportunity to complete Form REV-1882, Health Insurance Coverage Information Request. This brief form asks basic questions about your household and health insurance status.

Once the form is submitted:

  1. The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue securely sends your information to Pennie.
  2. Pennie creates an account on your behalf.
  3. You receive a letter containing:
    • An access code to activate your account
    • An estimate of potential financial assistance or tax credits you may qualify for
    • Information about your 60-day Special Enrollment Period to shop for and enroll in coverage

Already filed your taxes?

Don’t worry, it’s not too late. If you’ve already filed your Pennsylvania tax return, you may still be able to take advantage of Path to Pennie by amending your state tax return and completing Form REV-1882.

Don’t miss this opportunity

Health insurance provides valuable protection against unexpected medical expenses and ensures access to preventive care and essential health services. If you or someone you know is currently uninsured, Path to Pennie could be the pathway to affordable coverage and peace of mind.
