The countdown is on! If you’re a Pennsylvania resident looking for health insurance for 2025, now’s the time to review your coverage. Pennie’s Open Enrollment is currently happening, and it’s the key window for signing up for, renewing, or changing your health coverage. Missing this period could mean you’ll have to wait until next year to enroll—unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).

Here’s your reminder of the important dates for Pennie’s Open Enrollment for 2025 and everything you need to know to make sure you don’t miss out!

Pennie Open Enrollment Important Dates

  • Open Enrollment Starts: November 1, 2024
  • Last Day for Coverage to Begin on January 1, 2024: December 15, 2024
  • Final Deadline to Enroll or Change Plans for 2025 Coverage: January 15, 2025

December 15, 2024: Deadline for January 1 Coverage
If you want your coverage to start on January 1, 2025, you must enroll by December 15, 2024. This is the cut-off date for those who want to have health coverage when the new year begins.
Be sure to complete your application and pay your first premium by December 15. Otherwise, your coverage won’t begin until February 1, 2025.

January 15, 2025: Final Day for Open Enrollment
January 15, 2025, is the final day of open enrollment. If you miss this date, you will generally not be able to apply for or change your health coverage unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period due to a qualifying life event (such as losing job-based insurance, having a baby, or getting married).
So, whether you’re renewing, switching plans, or applying for the first time, make sure you finish your application by January 15 to secure health coverage for 2025.

What you can do before January 15

  • Finalize your selection and complete the application.
  • Pay your premium by January 15 to ensure your coverage starts without delay.

What happens if you miss the deadline?

If you miss the January 15 deadline, you won’t be able to enroll in a 2025 health plan through Pennie, unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Life events like job loss, a change in family size, or moving to a new state can trigger a SEP, allowing you to apply for coverage outside the open enrollment period. But if you don’t experience one of these qualifying events, you’ll need to wait until the next open enrollment period in late 2025.
