ITINERARY

Sunday, September 29: Travel to the Outer Banks

7:00AM: Motorcoach will depart from Lititz,  Penn Cinema, 541 Airport Road, Lititz.

8:00AM: Depart from Harrisburg, AAA Central Penn, 2301 Paxton Church Road; travel to the Outer Banks NC.

**Departure times are approximate and will be confirmed closer to travel. 

Upon arrival in North Carolina we'll check into our hotel with Oceanside View rooms.  You will have time to freshen up before a delightful dinner at a local restaurant. Hotel: Hilton Garden Inn, Outer Banks/Kitty Hawk, NC. (Dinner) 

Monday, September 30: Corolla Wild Horse Tour, 1874 Currituck Beach Lighthouse, Wright Brothers Memorial

After breakfast we'll begin our journey to Corolla for a Wild Horses tour with a local guide. On this tour, you learn the history of the wild horses and details about the area.  We will travel behind the dunes to the neighborhoods where the wild horses graze.  Visit the 1874 Currituck Beach Lighthouse the last brick and mortar lighthouse built in North Carolina. Its unpainted red brick serves as a day marker to distinguish it from other coastal lighthouses. This afternoon enjoy independent time for lunch and shopping at the TimBuck II Shopping Village.  Following lunch we'll visit the Wright Brothers Memorial, a monument to the American's who taught the world to fly. Wind, sand, and a dream of flight brought Wilbur and Orville Wright to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina where, after four years of scientific experimentation, they achieved the first successful airplane flights on December 17, 1903.   (Breakfast, Dinner)

Tuesday, October 1: Bodie Island Lighthouse, Cape Hatteras National Seashore & Lighthouse

After breakfast meet our guide for touring of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The tour includes a stop at the Bodie Island Lighthouse, and a tour the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. This afternoon we'll have lunch at Diamond Shoals Restaurant. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to relax or get out and dip your toes in the sand and enjoy the sea air.  Tonight, Dinner is included at a local restaurant. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Wednesday, October 2: Roanoke Island Festival Park, Depart for Richmond

After breakfast travel to Roanoke to visit the Roanoke Island Festival Park. This is an interactive attraction that celebrates the first English settlement in America. We will board and explore the park's centerpiece, a representational ship, Elizabeth II. Discover 400 years of Outer Banks history and see The Legend of Two-Path, a mini-movie about Native Americans. This afternoon enjoy some free time for lunch on your own. Depart for Richmond to check into the hotel where you may choose to take part in the Drury Plaza Kickback Reception or venture out on your own for dinner.  Hotel: Drury Plaza Hotel Richmond, Glen Allen, VA. (Breakfast,  Kickback Reception)

Thursday, October  3: Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden , Depart for Central Pennsylvania 

After breakfast we'll depart for The Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden for a guided tour. The garden celebrates the fall season with vibrant seasonal displays and festive events such as Fall Plant Fest. Experience nature at this special time of year, while enjoying these harvest-themed activities. This afternoon depart for Central Pennsylvania with appropriate rest and fast food meal stops en-route. (Breakfast)

Tour Activity Level: 3
This tour requires moderate physical activity. The itinerary blends some longer days with shorter days and more leisure time. Walking tours, as well as walking slightly longer distances, up stairs, or on uneven walking surfaces, should be expected.

Travel Documents

As travel policies are rapidly changing due to COVID-19, final requirements will be communicated prior to departure. Please see your Travel Advisor for additional information. 

Payment

A $300 per person deposit is due at the time of booking to confirm your reservation. Final payment is due to AAA by  July 26, 2024.
 

Cancellation/Penalties

A $25 per person cancellation fee will be charged by Discoveries in addition to any other supplier’s fees. From   July 26, 2024 to day of departure no refunds.

 

 

Insurance

For your protection AAA recommends travel insurance. Pre-existing medical conditions may be waived with proper coverage if travel insurance is purchased within 14 days of initial deposit only. Other conditions may apply; ask your travel agent. AAA recommends Allianz.

Clothing/Climate

Temperatures for North Carolina and Virginia in September average in the 70s. Casual clothes and comfortable walking shoes are recommended; be prepared for potential inclement weather.

Travel Assistance

For personal comfort, group participants who need assistance are required to have a traveling companion who is capable of and totally responsible for providing the needed assistance.
