Highlights

Newport, Rhode Island

Famous for its Gilded Age mansions, many of which are open for tours, such as the Vanderbilt's opulent Marble House, Newport remains a charming, well-heeled resort city. For a different view of the mansions, take the scenic Cliff Walk. The rocky shoreline is also dotted with lighthouses, including the granite Castle Hill.

Fun Things to Do:

  • Tour the vineyards of a family-owned-and-operated winery on the Sakonnet River.
  • Tour two National Historic Landmark mansions from “The Gilded Age” HBO series. Hear fascinating stories about the wealthy families that built these Newport mansions.
  • Ride around Newport in a motor coach and stop at attractions that sound appealing. Stay as long as you like at each attraction to enhance your understanding of the area.

Hamilton, Bermuda

Visit the Bermuda National Gallery, the Anglican cathedral and the Houses of Parliament. The islands of Bermuda have more golf courses per capita than any other country in the world. On the southern coast you can experience the famous pink sand beaches.

Fun Things to Do:

  • Walk through the heart of Hamilton at a comfortable pace, taking in the landmarks. Pass government buildings as the guide explains why Hamilton became the capital in 1815. See war memorials and monuments that commemorate Bermuda’s history.
  • See the bountiful marine life below the surface from the comfort of a glass-bottom boat. Behold countless tropical fish that may include parrotfish and damselfish. Look for hawksbill and green sea turtles, as well. Pass the wreck of a 19th-century British ship that has become an artificial reef.
  • Descend into the Crystal Caves and behold the underground wonders. See the cave floor 50 feet below the surface of a crystal-clear underground lake. Drive through the most exclusive residential neighborhood in Bermuda.

St. George, Bermuda

This charming town retains much of its historic architecture from the 17th to 19th centuries. Visit its many museums, such as the Bermuda National Trust Museum, and forts once used by the British Army and Royal Navy. The Gothic ruins of the Unfinished Church stand on a hill overlooking the town, and St. Peter's Church is the oldest Anglican church in the western hemisphere.

Fun Things to Do:

  • Take a meandering walk through St. George, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Hear about the town’s fascinating history, which dates to the early 1600s. See landmarks that reflect how St. George has changed over the centuries.
  • See replicas of England’s crown jewels at Fort St. Catherine. Admire the coastal views from the lighthouse on St. David’s Island. Visit a perfumery that creates fragrances from local botanicals.
  • Follow a costumed actor through the atmospheric streets of 400-year-old St. George’s. Hear the haunted history of St. George’s and supernatural tales of past residents. See supposedly haunted sites such as the Old Rectory and the graveyards in St. Peter’s Church.

 Activity Level 2

This tour requires average physical activity. You should be in good health, able to climb stairs and walk reasonable distances, possibly over uneven ground and cobblestoned streets.

*Please see your Travel Agent to reserve your choice of shore excursions.*
